HAJJ – Pilgrimage to the House of Allah in Mecca

1.         Introduction
Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca is one of the five pillars of Islam. Hajj was made obligatory in the 9th year of Hijra. The Holy Prophet sent off 300 Muslims under the leadership of Hazrat Abubakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him) to Mecca so that they could perform Hajj. That was the year when it was banned for the Mushrikeen (those who associate partners with Allah) to enter Ka’ba. It was also made unlawful to perform Tawaaf (circling of Ka’ba) with naked body.

In the Holy Quran we read:
"They ask thee about the new moons. Say, These are means for measuring time for people's affairs and for the Pilgrimage" (Holy Quran, Ch. 2 V. 190)

Business Report

A business report of World Bank.....

Overview

The subnational Doing Business in Pakistan 2010 project benchmarked business regulations in 6 Doing Business areas across 13 cities and covered all provinces in Pakistan. It found a number of local level business reforms complementing nationwide effort, made reform recommendations and highlighted local best practices. The project results were delivered despite difficult security issues in many of the areas covered. Doing Business in Pakistan 2010 gave specific locations in Pakistan an opportunity to tell their story and compare their regulations with other cities in the same country and with over 180 locations around the globe. Local-level performances are becoming increasingly important in a globalized world, where specific locations, rather than countries, compete for investment—Karachi versus Shanghai, rather than Pakistan versus China.

Government Structure

Pakistan's independence was won through a democratic and constitutional struggle. Although the country's record with parliamentary democracy has been mixed, Pakistan, after lapses, has returned to this form of government. The constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 provides for a federal parliamentary system with a president as head of state and a popularly elected prime minister as head of government.

The Constitution of 1973

The Bhutto Government's first achievement was the preparation of a Constitution for the country. The most prominent characteristic of this Constitution was that it accommodated proposals from the opposition parties and hence almost all the major political parties of the country accepted it. The National Assembly approved the 1973 Constitution on April 10, 1973, and it came into effect on August 14. Bhutto took over as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from this date and Fazal Ilahi Chaudhry was appointed as the President of Pakistan.

Peshawar History

                                                      Quizza Khawani Bazaar Peshawar

Once standing on the top of imposing Bala-Hisar Fort in Peshawar, one could see the historic Khyber Valley- gateway that has seen traders, conquers, nomads and travellers passing through it. But today, you can only see the jungle of high concrete structures, plazas and clouds of hanging over the cityscape. So much ‘development’ has taken place in the historic city.
